Talland House Farewell to the ‘To The Lighthouse’ View

Possibly the last chance to witness the view of Godrevy Lighthouse from Talland House before a proposed development blocks it. A view of international literary significance, it forms the backbone of Virginia Woolf’s ground-breaking modernist novel To the Lighthouse.

Hear from Heritage Horticulturalist and Talland Gardener Polly Carter and Maggie Humm, Vice Chair of The Virginia Woolf Society of Great Britain to hear about the significance of this iconic view and the campaign to protect it. There will also be an opportunity to participate in the firing of charcoal made from Talland House plant material with artist Adrian Neil Taylor. The charcoal will be sent to anyone wishing to create their own image or text based tributes to the view or the novel, to form part of an exhibition celebrating the centenary of To the Lighthouse in St Ives next year.

To conclude the evening, opera singer and Talland resident Nicola Montfort will perform Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs.
