St Ives Jazz Club presents: The Ronnie Scott’s Allstars return with 2 nights of great jazz.

Tuesday 16th – Continuing The Ronnie Scott’s Story
James Pearson leads the audience through the history of Ronnie Scott’s, mixing classic music from the jazz greats who have perfomed there such as Count Basie, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Miles Davis, with tales of old Soho, the miscreant musicians, the police raid at the Roland Kirk gig and the mystery bottle of Mumm behind the bar. The clock won out last year before the band could finish the story. This year they aim to bring it up to date, with classic jazz from the legends that have played there over the years, intermixed with stories from the Club’s history (and they promise to tell the gangster stories this time!)

Wednesday 17th – 1959 Jazz Year of the Century
In celebration of the year that the club was founded, the Ronnie Scott All Star Quintet play music from six of the greatest jazz albums of all time, all released in 1959. Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue, John Coltrane’s Giant Steps, Dave Brubeck’s Time Out, Charles Mingus’ Mingus Ah Um, Ornette Coleman’s The Shape of Jazz to Come and Bill Evans’ Everybody Digs Bill Evans.

The Ronnie Scott’s Allstars features:
James Pearson – Piano, Sam Burgess – Bass, Alex Garnett – Saxophones, Freddie Gavita – Trumpet, Chris Higginbottom – Drums.
