‘Bright Light at the School of Painting’

An exhibition of recent oil paintings, still life and interiors, by this highly regarded Cornish-based artist. The exhibition showcases Alice’s sensitivity to colour and her use of loose brushwork, the apparent spontaneity of which belies the artist’s constant enquiry into picture composition and structure.

Alice, who was born in Columbia and studied at Camberwell School of Art in the ’80s, has long been based in Cornwall.

“Soft edges shimmer, yet the object remains defined and tactile. All the elements are suffused with seductive Cornish light” – Richard Selby.

“She has instilled an English flavour into the still life tradition and, in her profound understanding and joyful handling of oil paint, can be likened to Winifred Nicholson and the School of St Ives.” – Professor Richard Demarco CBE.

To view more of Alice’s art and stay up to date with Belgrave St Ives’ exhibitions, visit the gallery’s website at www.belgravestives.co.uk and on Instagram @belgravestives.
