Architectural Sandcastle Competition (This event has now been cancelled)
The afternoon will celebrate St Ives’ sandcastle building tradition with a fun sandcastle competition. The event includes categories for all and a range of great prizes. Build anything that inspires you on plots 3 metres by 3 metres. Architects from across Cornwall will also demonstrate their skills.

An illustrated (PowerPoint) presentation and conducted tour of the Museum by Curator Brian Stevens. Join us and explore the artists’ scenes of Old St Ives illustrated with photographs of similar views of the town which they captured on canvas. Spaces limited to 25.

Talk: Henrietta Boex – Falmouth Alumni (This event has now been cancelled)
In 1902 the School of Art moved from a suite of rooms above the Library in Falmouth into a bespoke building in Arwenack Avenue. In the intervening years it gradually expanded and gained an outstanding reputation. An illustrated talk by Falmouth Art Gallery’s Director, charts this history and showcases some artworks produced by its alumni.

Maria Chiara Argirò: piano, synths, compositions. Sam Rapley: tenor sax, clarinet. Tal Janes: guitar. Andrea Di Biase: double bass. Gaspar Sena: drums. Maria Chiara Argirò blends classical, folk traditions and electronic music with her own approach to harmony and melody calling strongly on contemporary jazz. The group will present some brand new compositions from the second album ‘Hidden Seas’ (released later in 2018).

Sarah’s music is a fusion of jazz, folk and blues knitted together by poetic, streetwise lyricism and she has performed in many festivals, arts centres and jazz venues in Europe and across the UK, including headline shows at Ronnie Scott’s in London.

An evening of song, piano and poetry
The Arts Club is the perfect setting for the voice of Jessie Giuliani singing a range of well loved songs; including ‘Sally Gardens’ and ‘Silent Noon.’
Also come, relax and imagine walking along the Goyen estuary as John plays his latest composition – currently being recorded for a CD.

A Grand Tour of Europe in Music
Tenor: Farran Roland, Pianoforte: Peter Luing. An evening of music emulating the Grand Tour through European classical vocal music; to include works by Verdi and Mozart. Tenor Farran Roland is currently studying opera singing in Milan. Accompanied by Peter Luing, MD at St Ia, this is an evening not to be missed. Please bring a cushion.

St Ives September Festival Artist in Residence, Zsuzsanna Ardó, will talk about how her High Arctic expedition experience inspires her work as an artist and curator, about glaciers ‘talking back’, land art installations, climate change, and the effects of coastal erosion in Cornwall.

Pray Some Fishes and a Dry Safe Bed
A traditional meeting place for St Ives fishermen since 1918, the Rose Lodge and Shore Shelter are a living archive of stories. Local historian Tony Farrell will be spinning a yarn with Jack Doherty, talking about the history of the lodges, decline of a vibrant fishing industry and the men who risked their lives at sea. Spaces limited. FREE but donations for the Lodge welcome.
